We used an amazing set that was originally constructed for Space Cowboys and was as close in detail to the real shuttle flight deck as we could possibly get. We scouted Space Camp, Houston and Seattle Museum of Flight before settling on this set and shooting out in LA. We also constructed a one off 1/ 48th scale model shuttle for the opening and end graphics page and picked that up back here in ATL. I mean we could have done it in CG but what fun would that have been! The liquid in zero G we photographed clear water over black at 2000fps on Weisscam and comped it back in to the frame giving a way more realistic looking space liquid. This was a spot for Nintendo for the new Super Mario Maker Game. We had a demo of the game on set which was kept under tight security and then rotoscoped and composited clean final game play in post. I also pride myself on product shots and Dave Pickett at Spectrum Grading did a great job on color matching the yellow to the Mario Maker box art. All in all it was a rad technical piece and a lot of fun to shoot and get our heads around what was practical and what was composited.
